Unpopular Opinion: Your Attention Span Is Longer than a Goldfish's

Unpopular opinion: we don't have the attention span of a goldfish.

Our attention spans are actually quite long...when something captures it.

Think about binge watching or listening.

Blog posts are actually longer now than they were 10 years ago, and longer ones get stronger results.

We actually spend a good amount of time on things that interest us.

The difference now is that in our fast-paced world, we have seconds to hook someone or they'll move on.

What is this about? Why should I care?

Nonprofit leader, those are the questions that you need to be thinking about in terms of your messaging and your audience.

It's true for Netflix, and it's true for you.

We have so much thrown at us from every direction, every day.

Having clear and consistent messaging that tells a powerful story is not only how you'll cut through the noise in a memorable way, but also signal to the right people that you are for them and they should want to stick around.

If you're as fascinated by how to capture the right people's attention as I am, you can check out debunking the goldfish myth here, and the blog post study I referenced here.
